Hello there, my name is Jon Bishop. I’ve done every job from dustman to doorman, and I still don’t know what I want to do with my life, the only constant is my love for music and the guitar.
I’ve been playing guitar since I was nine years old, and bought my first electric guitar with the pocket money I’d saved for over a year. It was a Rockster Black Panther strat style beginners package that included a gig bag, picks, a lead, song book and backing tape, and a small practice amp that was really quite useless, but it served its purpose and I got hooked on spanking the plank.
I still don’t think I’m good enough, then again I never do. I bought my first strat with the first pay cheque from my first proper job, drivers mate for the transport department at Bolloms Textile services with my mums friend when I was seventeen. I now play a De Armond M-65 Les Paul copy that’s actually one of the best instruments I have ever owned and it cost me £150, much less than the strat. Proving that you don’t have to spend a fortune to acquire quality.
My influences range from Eric Clapton to Iron Maiden, latin, blues, metal, anything really.
Even if I don’t get on with a musicians work I often find myself respecting their skill with their instrument of choice. My own excursions into musical creation have been as varied as the artists I listen to.
My current album is the story of the past seven years of my life when I met a girl, fell in love, then had a beautiful baby girl and shortly after lost the lot. I only get to see my daughter one day a week, but I try to make the most of it. It tells of the ups and downs of relationships, and the times I missed the band having moved across the country to be with the girl I loved.
Now I have a new life, and an even larger appetite for the musid I had been starved of for a number of years. I am now writing far better material as I now have a lot more experience of life to draw on for inspiration. I hope to keep the flow as my life moves on.
